Family Course - ASA 101: Basic Keelboat Certification

Course Objective

Enjoy a memorable bonding experience with your family!  You will spend 3 days sailing together on the water.  Our licensed captain will be on the boat as your guide, but everyone will be learning while you sail the boat.  Upon completion, you should be able to skipper your boat safely near the shore, during the day, in fair winds less than 10 knots.  This is the first course in the ASA sailing certification system, which is an important building block for future sailing courses.

Prerequisite (none)

Tuition

  • Tuition includes ASA certification for two members over 18 years of age. 
  • Additional ASA certifications for persons over age 18:  $150.00 p/person
  • ASA certification for persons under age 18 is not available; however, a certificate of completion will be awarded to your junior crew members. 

Scheduling

You work with the instructor to schedule the days and times that will be best for your family.   Sessions are once a week for 3 weeks, but can be three days in a row if you choose.  Class times are scheduled in four hour blocks, typically from 1pm to 5pm, but you may schedule them earlier or later if needed.
