Family Course - ASA 104:  Bareboat Charter Certification

Course Objective

Enjoy a memorable mini-vacation with your family!  You will spend 2 days and 2 nights on the water.  Our licensed captain will be on the boat as your guide, but all of you will be learning while you sail the boat.  Upon completion of this on-the-water training, you should be able to captain your boat safely to the front side of Catalina Island in heavier winds less than 20 knots. Now you should have the skills to cross a channel. This course is the practical portion of the ASA 105 Coastal Navigation.

  • Sail to and from Catalina with use of navigation equipment
  • Picking up a mooring 
  • Gennaker training
  • Dinghy training
  • Cooking onboard
  • Detailed understanding of Yanmar diesel engine
  • Heavy weather night sailing, weather permitting 
  • Anchoring

Prerequisite

  • ASA 103

Tuition

  • Tuition includes ASA certification for two members over 18 years of age. 
  • Additional ASA certifications for persons over age 18:  $100.00 p/person
  • ASA certification for persons under age 18 is not available; however, a certificate of completion will be awarded to your junior crew members. 

Scheduling

You work with the instructor to schedule the days and times that will be best for your family.
