School Overview

The Newport Beach Sailing School was created at the request of sailors who really wanted to learn how to sail, but who preferred not to learn "on an old dinghy that could easily flip over!" All of our sailboats are newer coastal cruising vessels in the 33 to 38 foot range, with two staterooms, a fully equipped galley, and an electric head and shower. They are loaded with the latest in Raymarine electronics including radar, GPS, a large color chartplotter, autopilot, and much more. Our vessels are the type of yacht you would eventually want to own, fractionally lease or charter boats on which you would feel comfortable to take out family, friends, or even colleagues. The Newport Beach Sailing School also differentiates itself by its patient, friendly captains.

There are a lot of captains with salt in their veins--who have sailed all of their lives--but who don't know how to teach! In life, we all know that a teacher can make or break your learning experience. Therefore, we looked long and hard to find US Coast Guard Captains and ASA certified sailing instructors who were also university professors or have professionally taught for a living. These captains know how to communicate well, with a great amount of patience, and an ability to teach the art of sailing in a fun and interesting manner.

The Newport Beach Sailing School provides personalized private and semi-private instruction.

Many schools teach in large group formats to keep their costs down, but in the end not everyone receives all of the attention they need. In our classes, with a maximum of two students,each student truly learns how to sail and can confidently command their boat in various sea conditions. Many of our students go on to buy their own boats, join a fractional sailing program or charter in exotic destinations like the British Virgin Islands. Previous students frequently tell us how happy they are that they chose our private and semi-private instruction over an impersonal group. They comment that they haven't just acquired knowledge, but the confidence needed to captain a boat with their family and friends aboard.

The Newport Beach Sailing School is in the unique position of having three valuable marine partnerships. This allows us to provide a dollar-for-dollar rebate if you decide to buy a new boat. We can also offer a rebate if you buy a used boat, join a fractional sailing program, or do a bareboat charter vacation. Here is the fine print:

We have a partnership with Cruising Yachts Inc. If you purchase a new sailboat from H&S Yacht Sales in Newport Beach, within a year of signing up for sailing classes, we will provide a dollar-for-dollar discount off the purchase of your boat, which would be equal to what you spent in sailing classes. If you buy a used boat from Cruising Yachts Inc in Newport Beach, you will receive a partial rebate.

We have a partnership with SailTime. If you purchase a SailTime fractional sailing membership within a year of signing up for classes, SailTime will provide a discount off the training fee, up to $1000.

We have a partnership with Sunsail. If you purchase a vacation charter within a year of signing up for classes, Sunsail will provide a $400 discount off the vacation charter at one of their over 50 exotic locations worldwide.
