Private classes
Many schools teach in large group formats to keep their costs down, but in the end, not everyone receives all of the attention they need. (Imagine taking a driving class with four or five other people in the car with you. Need we say more?) In our classes, with a maximum of two students on board, each student receives significant time at the helm. They truly learn how to sail and can confidently command their boat in various sea conditions, in and outside of Southern California. Many of our students go on to buy their own boats, join a fractional sailing program or charter in exotic destinations like the British Virgin Islands. Previous students frequently tell us how happy they are that they chose our private and semi-private instruction over a group. They comment that they haven't just acquired knowledge, but most importantly, have gained the confidence needed to captain a boat with their family and friends aboard.
Nice, newer boats
People enjoy themselves most when they get to sail newer, clean, well-maintained boats. We invested a lot of time and resources to bring new boats into our fleet and then maintain them to the highest standards. We have also given considerable thought to what boat is best suited for students to learn aboard--for each level of certification. Our fleet of sailboats ranges in size from 20 to 45 feet; therefore, we can choose the right boat just for you, which unquestionably enhances your overall learning experience. Last but not least, every one of our vessels is equipped with the latest options for convenience, comfort and safety.
Friendly, patient instructors
Our instructors are regarded amongst the best in the industry. There are a lot of captains with salt in their veins--who have sailed all of their lives--but many of whom simply do not know how to teach! In life, we all know that a teacher can make or break your learning experience. Therefore, we looked long and hard to find US Coast Guard Captains and ASA Certified Sailing Instructors who displayed a great amount of patience and could communicate well. Not only do our captains fully possess these qualities, they have an exceptional knowledge of Southern California waters, as well as the ability to teach the art of sailing in a fun and interesting style.
A wonderful place to learn to sail
You can sail in Newport Beach, CA twelve months a year! Not many other places around the world can boast weather conditions condusive to sailing all year long. Here in Newport Beach,it never snows, and rarely rains. We have neither hurricanes nor high humidity. Moreover, there are no big bugs to contend with and our temperature never gets too hot. You will also find that our winds are fair and seldom over bearing. In addition, the scenery is beautiful. Newport Harbor is surrounded by stunning waterfront homes,the California coastline is magnificent, and a sail over to Catalina island offers rustic charm to the island traveller. If you are flying in from out of town, John Wayne Airport (SNA) is just a convenient 6 miles away from Newport Harbor.
Best rates and value for private classes
Newport Beach Sailing School offers excellent rates for sailing classes. Compare anywhere and you’ll soon see for yourself. Just make sure you are comparing “apples to apples.” While other schools advertise extremely low introductory class costs, what many do not explain upfront is that you will need to register for more than one course to actually earn your Basic Keelboat Certification. For example, a local school states that “Beginning Sailing” costs only $145.00. What new students may not realize is that they need to purchase two more courses to acquire the Basic Keelboat Certification at that school. At the end of the day, the three courses cost the student a total of $845. That’s $95 more than our Basic Keelboat Class. At Newport Beach Sailing School, you can be assured that we will tell you the total price of the certification courses upfront. Our prices are typically lower and there are no hidden fees or surprise “add-ons.”
Our classes also provide the best value for your money. At our school, you will be in a class with a maximum of two students. Other schools have as many as 5, 10 or even 20 students per class. Our school will provide you with the personalized attention that is absolutely crucial for you to become a confident sailor sooner.
Last but not least, Newport Beach Sailing School schedules your instruction according to your schedule. We teach 7 days a week and do our utmost to be available for you. Since you have the flexibility to schedule your own classes, you can spread them out or complete them in a short amount of time. Either way, you have the freedom to sail and complete your courses when it is most convenient for you.

The Newport Beach Sailing School is in the unique position of having three valuable marine partnerships with Cruising Yachts, Inc., SailTime Fractional Sailing, and Sunsail Charters. Each partnership allows us to provide a different rebate. You can receive a dollar-for-dollar rebate if you decide to buy a new boat. We can also offer a partial rebate if you buy a used boat, join a fractional sailing program, or do a bareboat charter vacation. Here is the fine print:
Rebate from Cruising Yachts, Inc. If you purchase a new sailboat from the Cruising Yachts office in Newport Beach, within a year of signing up for sailing classes, we will provide a dollar-for-dollar discount off the purchase of your boat, which would be equal to what you spent in sailing classes. If you buy a used boat from the Cruising Yachts office in Newport Beach, you will receive a partial rebate.
Rebate from SailTime Orange County: If you purchase a SailTime fractional sailing membership in Newport Beach, within one year of signing up for classes, SailTime will provide a discount off the training fee, up to $1000.
Rebate from Sunsail: If you purchase a vacation charter within one year of signing up for classes, Sunsail will provide a $400 discount off the vacation charter at one of their over 50 exotic locations worldwide.
