7 Day Live-Aboard: ASA 101, 103, & 104 (3 certifications)

Course Objective
You will spend 7 days and 6 nights (optional 7th night) on the water. Our licensed captain will be on the boat as your guide, but you will be learning as you sail the boat! Upon completion of this on-the-water training, you should be able to captain your boat safely to the Catalina Island in heavier winds up to 20 knots. Now you should have the skills to cross a channel.
Itinerary
Day 1:
Arrive in Newport Beach, CA. Complimentary pick up from John Wayne International Airport or meet at our offices. Drive down to your live aboard yacht to stow your belongings. Participate in boat orientation. Buy provisions for your stay. Begin the ASA 101, Basic Keelboat Course with private captain. Wrap up the day at approximately 5PM. Evening on your own. Walk to one of the many fine restaurants in Newport Beach or BBQ/cook on board.
Day 2:
Enjoy leisurely breakfast aboard boat. Go for a walk or run, or relax. Captain will meet aboard your boat at the time convenient for you. Continue ASA 101 Basic Keelboat training for a four block of time. Evening on your own.
Day 3:
In the morning, take ASA 101 written test aboard your vessel. Captain will grade and review any missed questions with you. A grade of 80% is passing. Complete on the water portion of ASA 101 test--go for a sail and demonstrate your skills to the captain. Enjoy your new sailing skills while sailing past the beautiful waterfront homes, mega yachts, and sea lion colonies. Afternoon and evening on your own.
Day 4:
Begin the ASA 103, Basic Coastal Cruising Course with private captain. Sail to Laguna Beach or Huntington Beach depending on wind conditions. Evening on your own.
Day 5:
In the morning, take ASA 103 written test aboard your vessel. Captain will grade and review any missed questions with you. A grade of 80% is passing. Complete on the water portion of ASA 103 test. Then, depart Newport Harbor for Catalina and begin the ASA 104, Basic Keelboat Course with captain. Pick up mooring in Avalon Harbor. Spend the night in Avalon. Dinner aboard or ashore.
Day 6:
Enjoy breakfast aboard boat. Sail from Avalon to Two Harbors. Anchor in Isthmus Cove at Two Harbors, Catalina. Practice cooking on board and using dinghy to go ashore.
Day 7:
Breakfast aboard or ashore. In the morning, take ASA 104 written test aboard your vessel. Captain will grade and review any missed questions with you. A grade of 80% is passing. Sail back to Newport Beach using the gennaker sail. Arrive at slip. Pack up belongings and depart. (Optional 7th night live-aboard without captain available.)

Prerequisite (none)
Tuition
- Tuition includes all books, materials, testing and annual ASA Membership for three ASA certifications for two students over 18 years of age.
- Three additional ASA certifications for persons over age 18: $350.00 p/person
- ASA certification for persons under age 18 is not available; however, a certificate of completion will be awarded to your junior crew members.
